New AIDS Benefit in Missouri To Depend on Pedal Power
April 19, 2008
Many people may remember Larry Horning from his involvement in Kansas City events years ago, including bike rides such as PrideRide and the AIDS Walk?s AIDS Bicycle Tour. Since moving to mid-state Missouri and taking over the ownership of the Trailside Caf? and Bicycle Store, Horning has become a well-known figure to the thousands who ride the Katy Trail across Missouri annually.
This year Horning and a group of residents in mid-Missouri have organized a biking fundraiser for HIV/AIDS called Trails to a Cure. The organizers are scheduling it for Sunday, May 4, in Rocheport, and they hope the ?ride/walk/run? event will be annual. The group hopes to give 100 percent of the proceeds to the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) of Central Missouri and the Foundation for AIDS Research.
The group is drawing on all of its members and volunteers to make this inaugural event a success.
?I?m going to be the jack of all trades and be wherever they need me that day,? said Liz Rettke, board director, ?whether it?s the registration table or walking the trail.? She said they are aiming for at least 200 participants. ?We?re looking for those warm bodies,? she joked.
To help out our friends in mid-Missouri with their new fundraiser, you can register online at www.aidstrailtoacure.org and take a beautiful spring bike ride on the Katy Trail.
