Centralia Considers Nondiscrimination Ordinance
January 5, 2012
CANCELLED. PROMO has reported that this ordinance has been removed from the January 9 meeting. They will inform us of when this is being rescheduled. PROMO reports that the city of Centralia, Mo., will introduce an ordinance on Monday, Jan. 9, to update the city's nondiscrimination ordinance to protect individuals in employment, housing, and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Centralia mayor and Board of Aldermen will allow the public to speak on this issue. PROMO says that it is important to demonstrate how vital a fully inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance is to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and ally community and invite all to attend the meeting.
PROMO reports that numerous other cities in Missouri already have fully inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances, including Columbia, Kansas City, St. Louis City, University City, Olivette, and Clayton.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at Centralia City Hall, 114 S. Rollins St. If you cannot attend, you can show your support by signing this petition: http://bit.ly/v5fJPj
