New Changes in 2012 for the Kansas Equality Coalition
January 10, 2012
Kansas Equality Coalition--the LGBT civil rights organization for Kansas--is reorganizing its Kansas City chapter. The new organization is called Kansas Equality Coalition of Metropolitan Kansas City. An interim board of directors was set up in October, and election of a permanent board is scheduled for January 10, 2012, 7-9 p.m. at the Johnson County Library, Cedar Roe Branch, 5120 Cedar St., Roeland Park. Participation is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to join their board or become chapter members. After elections, the new board is inviting attendees to provide community feedback on priorities for lobbying.
Joseph Jarvis, Interim Chair of KEC reports, "As the HRC or PROMO equivalent for Kansas, we're hoping to mobilize fair minded people to stand up for equal treatment under Kansas's state and local laws."
"One area we're very interested in is updating nondiscrimination laws to prevent bias-based firings and evictions. Everyone should have the right to a home and a job."
